Sightings

On last night's bat walk we detected the presence of some Pipistrelles and Noctules, but none of the Daubentons and Horseshoes that we identified on 21 July. Suzanne Dalton, who led both walks, explained that the bat populations must be suffering from the abnormally high temperatures and persistent drought of the past three weeks: the parched ponds and stream are not supporting the midges and other insects on which the bats depend for food. We need rain -- lots of it !!!
